Claims of bungled dentistry

A dentist bungled treatment and left patients in agony at his Oxford surgery, an inquiry heard.

Hamid Mozneb is accused of giving patients crowns when their teeth were still diseased, failing to treat infection and providing inadequate root fillings.

Mozneb, of Osler Road, Headington, admitted failing to provide adequate treatment to four patients at Marston Dental Practice between November 1997 and March 2000.

He denies serious professional misconduct.

The General Dental Council heard that Mozneb persuaded patient Christine Schirn to pay for private dental care in January 1999 for a crown that matched her teeth.

John Snell, counsel for the GDC, said Mrs Schirn complained of pain as Mozneb prepared the tooth but was told to "stop making a fuss."

Patient Julie Cole told the committee she had to return to the dental surgery five or six times because the crowns fitted by Mozneb kept falling out and breaking. Mrs Cole said she was persuaded to go private by Mozneb in January 2000 to fix a broken front tooth. Mr Snell said Mozneb had rushed the job.

The hearing was told Conrad Holmes was given 14 crowns when there was still disease present, after Mozneb ignored the two-stage method of treatment. The hearing continues.
