Police seal off caravan park after body found

An investigation has been launched after a man's body was found at a caravan park.

The body of the 63-year-old man was discovered at The Paddocks residential caravan site in Bampton, near Witney.

Police cordoned off the park, in Weald Street, on Tuesday, June 4, while they spoke to residents and carried out forensic investigations.

The man's body was discovered lying on a driveway.

It was taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police were called to the site, which is privately owned by families of travellers, at about 10pm on Monday night.

A 59-year-old woman, believed to be the dead man's wife, was later taken to Banbury police station to help detectives with their inquiries.

Supt Duncan Graham, of northern Oxfordshire police, said: "The circumstances leading up to this man's death are not clear.

"We're awaiting results of the post-mortem before coming to any conclusions about the cause." He said the man would be formally identified "at a later stage".

Residents at a nearby residential caravan site, St Mary's Court, also at Weald Street, were disturbed by noises on Monday night.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "We didn't know what it was all about, but it was noisier than usual with a lot of dogs barking.

"Then the police were there all day."

The post-mortem was expected to take place in Oxford on June 4.
