When I last reviewed the Bell at Standlake, shortly before the dawn of the new Millennium, its reputation with gourmets stood high. Dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and other points east were offered by its well-travelled bosses to supplement traditional English fare such as lambs' kidneys and locally made black pudding. There was even a Fijian creation, kokoda, made from raw fish and coconut milk. Such was the quality of its cooking, that the pub was one of the very few honoured with inclusion in the Good Food Guide.   more...
